Digene Corp. (DIGE) agreed to be acquired by Qiagen NV (QGEN) for $1.6 billion in cash and stock. Shares of Digene leaped $12.05 to close at $56.82 while Qiagen stock slipped $1.70 to close at $15.58.

AFC Enterprises Trims Forecast

While AFC Enterprises Inc. (AFCE) reported higher first quarter earnings of 22 cents per share compared with 19 cents per share a year earlier, same store sales fell prompting the operator of Popeye Chicken & Biscuit to trim its full year forecast. The stock price fell $1.25 to close at $18.22.

Harris To Acquire Multimax

Harris Corp. (HRS) will pay approximately $400 million in cash to acquire privately held Multimax Inc. The company also warned that fiscal 2007 results would fall below expectations sending the stock price down $1.25 to close at $48.67.

J. Crew Reports Impressive Earnings And Lifts Outlook

J. Crew Group Inc. (JCG) reported first quarter earnings of 39 cents per share compared with 12 cents per share in the year ago period to surpass expectations by 9 cents and lifted its full year outlook. Shares of the apparel retailer leaped $5.21 to close at $50.08.

FDA Says Labopharm's Painkiller Ineffective

Labopharm Inc. (DDSS) was the casualty of the day after the FDA concluded that its painkiller was ineffective. Shares of the pharmaceutical plummeted $3.24 to close at $3.07.

CKX Receives Buyout Bid

CKX Inc. (CKXE) which operates Elvis Presley's Graceland estate received a buyout bid for $1.33 billion from its chairman and chief executive. The stock price jumped $4.02 to close at $14.65.

Bancroft Family Meets With Murdoch Over Dow Jones Deal

The Bancroft family agreed to meet with Murdoch to discuss the possible sale of Dow Jones & Co. Inc. (DJ)to News Corp. (NWS). Shares of Dow Jones surged $7.89 to close at $60.78 while News Corp. stock edged up 59 cents to close at $24.22.
