Caterpillar Falls Short

Caterpillar Inc. (CAT), a Dow Jones Industrial average component, posted lower profits of $1.24 per share compared with $1.52 per share in the year ago period and missed analyst expectations by 25 cents. The stock price tumbled $3.78 to close at $83.20.
