Lucent And Alcatel Discuss Merger

Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU) and Alcatel SA (ALA) reopened merger discussions that ended in 2001 which would create the world's largest communications equipment maker. Shares of Lucent rose 24 cents to close at $3.06 while Alcatel stock gained 25 cents to close at $15.70.
