Cognos Offers $339 Million For Applix

Cognos Inc. (COGN) offered $339 million in cash to buy Applix Inc. (APLX), a business analystics software company. Shares of Cognos edged up 12 cents to close at $41.20 while Applix stock surged $3.21 to close at $17.58.
