Price War Among Drive Makers

A possible price war between disk drive makers sparked by the impending acquisition of Maxtor Corp. (MXO) by Seagate Technology (STX) weighed down the sector with Western Digital Corp. (WDC) losing $1.68 to close at $20.69. Shares of Komag Inc. (KOMG) dropped $2.99 to close at $49.84 while Seagate stock fell $1.37 to $26.15. The stock price of Maxtor eased 52 cents to $9.45.
