GE Reports Higher Earnings

General Electric Co. (GE) gave the Dow Jones Industrial Average a lift after reporting solid earnings that rose to 53 cents per shares from 48 cents per share in the year ago period and announcing that it was selling off its subprime loan holdings. The stock price added 50 cents to close at $39.50.
