Earnings Rise For J. C. Penney

First quarter earnings for J. C. Penney Corp. (JCP) rose to $1.04 per share from 89 cents per share a year earlier to beat expectations prompting the department store chain to lift its full year outlook. The stock price jumped $4.02 to close at $79.74.
